“Dunkirk” at IMAX

DUNKIRK, the World War II film storming the box offices this summer will have exclusive 15/70mm film screenings at the IMAX Theater in the Indiana State Museum. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, July 5 at 9:00 a.m.

About the IMAX Experience

Exclusively in the IMAX Theater in the Indiana State Museum, scenes will expand to fill the entire six-story screen, allowing moviegoers to see up to 40 percent more of the image with unprecedented crispness, clarity, and color saturation for a truly immersive screening. The downtown IMAX is one of less than 40 movie theaters in the country to show the first-rate version of the film. The IMAX Experience featuring 15/70-millimeter film projection combines the brightest, clearest images at almost 10 times the resolution of 35mm film, with powerful, laser-aligned digital sound and customized theater geometry.

About “Dunkirk”

When the film opens on July 21, fans will follow the stories of WWII Allied soldiers from Belgium, the British Empire, Canada, and France who are surrounded by the German army. The gripping thriller follows the tale of their evacuation from Dunkirk, France before Nazi forces can take over.

From the theatre manager

“As is the case with any film director, Christopher Nolan’s preference is that this film be experienced in the format in which it was captured,” says Craig Mince, theater manager at the IMAX Theater in the Indiana State Museum. “There’s truly no better way to see this film and I’m excited to honor Nolan’s vision in IMAX 15/70mm. If the early buzz on this film is any indicator and the exclusiveness of our 15/70mm format presentation, tickets will sell out quickly to see this masterpiece!”

New upgrades at IMAX

DUNKIRK is one of the first films to screen in the downtown IMAX since the addition of new seats. The new leather seats will allow for more personal space, going from 21” to 25” wide. They will slightly recline by rocking back to help the viewer take in the entire screen, giving the moviegoer an ideal view for films such as DUNKIRK. Other recent improvements in the last year to the downtown IMAX experience include a new IMAX screen, a state-of-the-art digital projector, and a completely renovated concession stand.
