Art & Soul this Saturday
The Arts Council of Indianapolis and partner organizations Asante Children’s Theatre, Indy Jazz Fest, Kenyettá Dance Company, and Madame Walker Theatre Center will kick off Art & Soul: A Celebration of African American Art & Artists in Indiana at the Indianapolis Artsgarden on January 28 at 12:15 pm.
This year’s theme, “Lift Your Voice,” celebrates the rich African American traditions and empowerment through the arts. The Art & Soul Kickoff Celebration will lift every voice and set the stage for the month-long celebration.
The event will also include:
-Arts Council Board Member and sportscaster Michael Grady as emcee
-A lively procession of African drumming by Griot Drum Ensemble, the 2017 Featured Artists, and Indianapolis arts leaders
-Audience members singing the Black National Anthem
-A jazz tribute to President Obama
-An inspirational dance performance by Krash Krew Dance
-Engaging activities by local arts and cultural organizations
-Art exhibition by Featured Artist Tiffany Marie Parker
-2017 Art & Soul Featured Artists: Carrington Clinton (Music), Devon Ginn (Literary/Theatre), Taylar Green (Dance), and Tiffany Marie Parker (Visual)
