Actors Theatre of Indiana presents this Stephen Sondheim ground breaking musical that has simultaneously shocked, awed, and delighted audiences across the world.  The score is lush – the music, operatic; the story is full of pitch-black comedy and stunning terror.  It has been called one of the significant achievements of the American musical theater of the last fifty years!

After being wrongly imprisoned, Sweeney Todd returns to London to resume his barber business above a struggling pie shop, owned by Mrs. Lovett.  Sweeney’s plan for revenge includes a cutthroat partnership with Mrs. Lovett—an enterprising businesswoman—who is soon producing the tastiest meat pies in London while righting the wrongs they have experienced. This enthralling tale of revenge is based on the Victorian penny-dreadful The String of Pearls, transformed with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim into a tasty, thrilling, theatrical treat.

Reimagined for the silver screen in 2007, the film adaptation of the musical starred Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd, alongside Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett.
