Jesus Christ Superstar

With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, Jesus Christ Superstar, one of the original rock musical/operas,  continues its run at the Marian University Theatre through June 21.  This is a production of bobdirex, llc.

Loosely based upon the Gospel telling of the last week of Christ’s life from Palm Sunday until the Crucifixion, much of the plot centers around the interpersonal relationships between Christ, Judas Iscariot and Mary Magdalene not depicted in the Bible.  It’s fitting that the first rock musical (Broadway in 1971) should have a social rebel and his followers as the central theme.

Local cast members include Patrick Clements
 in the role of Jesus, Joe Doyel as Judas, Julia Perillo as Mary and Michael Lasley as Caiaphas.

This production marks a change in venue for bobdirex productions.  Marian University Theatre, originally remodeled for Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre before their move to Carmel, will be home to the bobdirex series. The theatre address 3200 Cold Spring Road.
