Bill Maher delivered the first late-night television monologue of Donald Trump’s presidency. Bounding onto the stage at his Los Angeles studio Friday night, the Real Time host blew his cheering audience a kiss and told the many fans watching live on HBO, “It happened. It really happened. We Americans have a new leader: Vladimir Putin.”

First on Comedy Central’s “Politically Incorrect” and for the last 14 years on HBO’s “Real Time,” Maher combination of unflinching honesty and big laughs have garnered him 38 Emmy nominations, with his first win in 2014 as executive producer for the HBO series “VICE.” in addition to his hit television programs, Maher has written five bestsellers as well as produced the documentary Religulous, which has gone on to become the eighth highest grossing documentary ever.
