Going Going Gone!
This long-form improv show has become a monthly production at Theatre on the Square. Set in the mythical Ed’s Auction House, where “Everything Must Go!, there is no script and different actors participate each month. Plus, a different set of props and “back-stories” at every performance. The action unfolds as the actors learn simultaneously with the audience exactly what items must be auctioned off – and, they create the stories behind those items.
Going, going, gone!
Theatre on the Square Main Stage
Ed is dead – and the doors are closing for good. But , boxes of Ed’s personal stuff has been found in a closet of his office. It must be sold to satisfy Ed’s will.
A different set of actors are featured at each performance, typically a two or three-actor cast. The actors play different characters, most of whom are related in some way to Ed. Ed’s ex-wife, his current wife, his estranged son and his loyal daughter, his accountant and his AA sponsor, his lover and his mother…you get the idea.
Here’s the interactive part – upon entering the theater space, audience members are given $25-$40 in play money. This money is used to actually bid on the items during the auction. Audience members take home whatever they win at auction and have been known to pool their money, form alliances and spark intense – and usually hilarious – competition for items.
In March, the auction gavel passes to local actors and improv performers Claire Wilcher, Bill Simmons and Jolene Mentink Moffat.
